Make an
Impact.
Change
Lives.

Get involved with an organization that makes life-changing impacts for the homeless and less fortunate in Knoxville. Enjoy the satisfaction of giving back and a strong fellowship with other volunteers. Seeing the joy something as simple as a haircut can bring to someone is an inspiring experience we can all benefit from!

While we welcome anyone who would like to volunteer, we want to make sure everyone has a chance to make a significant impact and enjoy their experience. For this reason, we try to cap the number of volunteers appropriately for each event.* If we are booked for the current month, please consider signing up for the next scheduled event. We appreciate your interest and hope to see you there!

You must be 21 years or older to volunteer with CareCuts

*This is a suggested number so no volunteers will be turned away at the door if limits have been reached for that event

Support Staff

Nothing we do would be possible without the help of our volunteer support staff. We typically need around 50 volunteers to help serve food, distribute clothing, and provide hospitality to the less fortunate each month.

Positions Available:

  • Registration: Sign our visitors up for their desired services for that day.
  • Clothing: Distribute clothing based on need, helping with sizing, etc.
  • Food Service: Prepare and serve food, cafeteria-style.
  • Hospitality: Assist the less fortunate. Tending to their needs, making them feel special!
  • Teaching Stations: Do you have skill/craft that could be useful or fun for our visitors! (self-defense, wreath making, painting, line dancing, etc.)

What to Expect

Day of the Event

Please arrive by 8am for Volunteer Check-in. When you arrive at our event you will check in at the Volunteer Registration Desk. You’ll chose an area you prefer to work. You’ll then be introduced to the team leader of your chosen area (i.e. Food, Clothing, Hair Color, Hair Cut, Runners, Registration, etc…) and you’re ready to start the day!

What to Wear

Volunteers should dress casual. We recommend shorts in summer and coats in winter if you plan to work at registration, runner, or food stations. Hair cuts and coloring are done inside. If you will be working with hair color please wear clothes you don’t care to get dye on.

Don’t forget to wear an orange shirt! CareCuts t-shirts are available for purchase (donation of choice).

Shift Length

Our events run from 8am – 4pm on the 1st Sunday of every month*. Short shifts last approximately 2-3 hours with long shifts lasting about 4 hours.

Check out a CareCuts Sample Schedule to get a better idea of the days events.

*If the first Sunday of the month falls on a holiday CareCuts will take place the 2nd Sunday of that month.
